I'm not so into Halloween

Halloween iconImage via Wikipedia

So I decided, I'm not so into Halloween. This was hard for me to admit to myself, I really enjoy most holidays. I enjoy decorating and celebrating, but there is something about halloween that is not fun to me. These are the reasons I came up with:

1) I have wasted too much money on costumes that didn't fit or were just not right. But you can't try them on in the store and you can't return them, such a scam. and although I do sew, I don't really make clothes and I'm not interested in making once a year costumes
2) As a kid, I remember my mom wasting money on great costumes, just for them to be covered up with my coat, because it was freezing, or more likely raining.
3) I don't really like the scary stuff. I'm not scared, I just prefer pretty stuff, like valentines day.
4) I do enjoy the candy but, now that I'm a grown-up I have to buy it myself, more money wasted.
5) We have never lived in a place that we had trick-or treaters, I always bought candy, just to be disappointed.

I'm not afraid of ghosts and zombies, but guess what I am afraid of. LOUD NOISES. They freak me out. You may be thinking lightening, fireworks, gun shots. No, not these loud noises. More like the garbage disposal, vacuum cleaners, public restroom toilets. I know bizarre, they make me jump and make my heart race.

Hope you all have a Happy Halloween and can stay away from loud noises (or whatever you are afraid of).

P.S. Please don't be offended if you "waste" money on Halloween, I waste money on other things, like fabric and stamps and books. So the more money I can save at Halloween the more of those things I can buy :)

Weeekly Menu 10.28.09

So the menu planning went pretty well for the first week. We got side tracked a bit the next week, but I'm back on the wagon. The groceries just came. I'm thinking of using this new site Alice.com for my CPG goods. I love that I know that means Consumer Packaged Goods, from Chris' time in Grad school, glad I picked up a few pieces of knowledge along the way.

Anyway they track your toilet paper and toothpaste usage and send it to you when you need it for FREE. Free shipping all the time. We use Amazon to ship our coffee every month (it's scary when I forget to order the coffee), so that we never run out. The more automated I can make my life the better.

On to this weeks food-

Weekly Menu 10.28.09

Wednesday- Pork chops (in a bag) with sweet potatoes (baked with butter and brownsugar!!)

Thursday- Ruebens (not one of my favorites, but Chris requested it)

Friday- out

Saturday- London Broil on the grill with acorn squash.

Sunday- not sure yet, either Sweet and Sour Chicken or Pumpkin Ravioli

Monday- Wednesday next week- Chris is out of town, so I eat spagetti every night, just kidding (kinda). I won't plan meals, just eat what is around, and get thai food one night, cause Chris only eats this once a month, not enough for me.

I will also be making a few of the recipes from this new website to freeze, Pumpkin coffee cake, Veggie Tortilla pinwheels. I think when I get a job I will do more once a month cooking, it's kinda like automated websites. Do all the work at once so you don't have to think about it each night.

Love this new site, It is meant to be done with a friend, then you each have 15 meals for the month. Maybe one day I will have a friend:(
Savanna- notice the fancy google docs!

Weekly Menu

So I have been trying my best to create a weekly menu, then do my grocery shopping based on that. I'm not so great at making decisions (and it's getting worse), so deciding what to cook each night for dinner is a disaster, that usually ends in cereal, spaghetti, or scrambled eggs. Who knew that there were so many blogs devoted to weekly menu planning? Here are a few I like, plus a few other food websites.

Menus For Moms - yeah not a mom, but that's ok

I'm an Organizing Junkie- Menu Plan Monday. Can't commit to have this ready every Monday but this blog has the most links to other blogs participating.

Rachel Ray - Weekly Roundup

AllRecipes- favorite website of all time.

So I can't promise it will be on that same day each week, but my goal is to do a weekly menu. As much as I can I'll link to the recipes from a website or even our own family recipes as I get them entered into MacGourmet (more on this in another post). So here is my first one.

Wednesday - Pizza, I'm doing the grocery shopping tonight, via Peapod!!

Friday - during the day will freeze broccoli soup, bought too much at the market this week. Then out to eat cause I don't cook on Friday night!

Saturday - Breakfast is always big on Sat, so I'll plan for that and maybe cook dinner, but most likely go out.

Sunday- Chili- Mom T's recipe. I hate the expression MIL for mother in law, so I will refer to Robin as Mom T. I'll try to get this recipe typed up soon and share.

Monday - Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and carrots and this cider gravy

Tuesday - Mushroom Orzo with chicken maybe

Ok so we'll see if this really happens as planned.

where were you when 90210 started?

So this is my new netflix obsession. 90210. I started at the beginning with Season 1. I know it may be hard to believe but I never watched this show. I couldn't figure out why until I realized it started when I was 8 years old, 1990. So I guess I was just too young to pick it up. It's helping me kill the time now during unemployment. What are your favorite old school shows.

Musings #1

As many of you may know, I love the internet, I love everything about it. And for the last few years I have been "trolling", as my brother in law would say, all the best sewing and craft blogs. His comment really hit home that I need to just jump into this world of blogging. Although I can't limit this blog to just sewing and crafts, because I'm too sporadic with my creations (note: last craft blog consisted of 2 posts over 2 years) and that would be boring. So I have no idea what this blog will consist of, a bit of everything I guess. I'm trying to think of it as my online scrapbook, since that phase has ended too, can you tell I dabble? I do not consider myself to be a writer, actually kinda dread anything that has to do with writing. But as my family and friends all know I have plenty to say, often too much to say. I'm working on it, ok. So don't expect much. Maybe every so often I'll say something informative, interesting, or funny. oh and I hate grammar, so don't criticize, if this is gonna be fun for me, all I can handle is spellcheck, nothing more! I think I'll blog for a week or so before I publish anything, just to convince myself I can do it. If I can't do it now, while unemployed, I'll never do it.

And since all the great blogs have photos: this is me at Cassie's wedding this summer. I'm looking a little lost and confused. But don't be fooled I know what I'm doing. Kinda how I feel about this blogging adventure.
